Jourblues (Eng. title: “On Call Blues”) |
Description: | A minor blues Dizzy Gillespie-style originally commissioned by Jan Oestman, MD; featuring a trumpeter presenting the theme and being the only soloist. The piece starts with a mystery-streaked intro with soloist harmon-muted fills, followed by the main theme. An interlude leads to the first choruses for the soloist – preferably still in harmon mute – who, after a band-exchange-chorus, comes back to solo some more with the harmon mute out. A band shout chorus is followed by the main theme in stop time by the soloist, building up to an ending that gives the soloist a cadenza to soar, before the band closes the piece in a very short statement. Notated key Bb-minor. |
